The atv only moves in reverse with no foward gears. I look it up and supposedly the artic cat automatic transmission is bullet proof. What do I do. I even called the dealer and told them about it and they said in the 7 years of selling them have never seen them fail. Not even once. Do you guys think a rear diff failling could cause this.
Any ideas what to look for? I dont even have any clue how this thing even works. Shifter linkage is adjusted OK? Can you feel the detents as you shift up and down? Cat did have an issue with the bevel gear. Not sure what symptoms it has when it breaks, should be naughty noises I would think, but maybe it is just silent. JoeCoolJun 8, I only feel it clunk in when i put it in reverse. Shifting from the high and low as well as reverse are done by forks moving collars on shafts, maybe there is a collar or fork failure and that should result in no noises as well as normal reverse operation.
Might need a tech to search through the shift adjustment and move on to internal if necessary. Good luck. I will easily make my money back.

Ok my Arctic cat wouldn't start so i ran some carb cleaner threw the fuel line and opened up the drain and it seemed to work and runs good it just wont drive over 12mph it dosnt bog down or anything it just wont go fast at all when I push the throttle down all the way.
I changed the spark plug so whats going on? Well I took the carb off I dont feel comfortable doing it myself i know its easy I just rather someone else do it if I can find someone.
The best bet is to find a friend who knows his way around a keihin and see if he will let you watch him clean it. The next time around you can disassemble and let him put it back together. Get rid of the screws on the bowl and trade then in for some allen heads while you are in there. All this unit is used for is to drive the farm check fences and take out a couple square bales to my animals. This unit has been a giant disappointment And now that this is the 3rd time it's broke I have to pay for yet another repair.
I will not keep this unit. It is junk and the dealer offers no options for the continuous breakdowns. At KM the engine seized which was caused by a failed crankshaft bearing, I took it back to Rockland Wheels.
Rockland Wheels put a new engine and primary clutch in this machine on November 28th I was informed that the cause of failure was the wrong engine oil being used in the machine. I find this very peculiar as I have the receipts for the oil change and it was done at an Arctic Cat Dealer. I find it difficult to conclude that wrong engine oil was the cause.
On December 29thI started the machine. Let it warm up and proceeded to take it for a ride. Approximately 1 KM from my house it developed a very prominent engine knock. I immediately took it home and shut it off. I took it to Barrie Powersports in Barrie, Ontario, Canada the first week of January, after not hearing anything for a month they called me and said they had found the problem and it was the primary clutch making the noise.
So I told them to go ahead and order another clutch for it. On February 12th they called me and said they had put the new clutch on it and the knocking sound was still there. Have Prowler HDX with only miles.
Wet clutch failed by coming apart. New part has a weld at the weak point. Either defective part in original or redesigned after problems. I just bought me a used Arctic Cat 4x4 had miles on it and it keep popping out of gear when I put it in high most of the time it wont go in high when its not warmed uped I have to put it in low then slam it in high what do you think is the problem?
I have a similar problem with my so I will give some advice that I have not even tried yet. Mine has no trouble going into gear but there are some times when it just "feels" like the gears are not meshed right. Personally I am waiting to chip a gear and have the whole case explode but that has not happened yet. Once it is in gear it rides with no problems at all and in low the feeling is non existent.
I plan on opening the case and checking out the gears and replacing the bevel gear for a straight cut one but I put my quad under a lot more duress that the normal rider. I run It is normal for the gears to pop out of gear with the engine cold. The RPMS are usually higher when warming up and you can listen to the idle to get a feeling of when to drop it into gear.
This happens all the time with ouryou have to wait a minute or two before you can drop it into high and get going. From your description the problem does sound like a high idle. After the quad is warmed up and the choke is off can you get it into gear without slamming it or are you still experiencing the same problem? I think its the linkage also i got to playing it it and the shifter needs to go a little higher to shift into high so im pretty sure it is the linkage.
To adjust the shifter place the bike in neutral. You should have a N on the display. Adjust the linkage so that the shift lever is in the center on the neutral shift gate with no pressure to the plastic gate.
Now try all the gears, the only gear that may be difficult is low. Low may need a little tap of the throttle for the gears to shift. You can post now and register later.
